Leave Baie du Post through narrows between Quebec Gov. Camp and the village. (One trout caught by trolling up Abatagush Bay.)
C.S. on right shore right before the narrows and a better one about 100 yds further on (Clay). C.S. also on north end of island in a small bay to the west just before the narrows at the north end of Abatagush Bay. C.S. on island about 2 miles out (island about 6 miles long), is on the NW shore. Go around the northern tip of the island, following the shore into the shallow bay on the west side. Site is on a colorful pebble beach. GOOD!
Last night one of the guys who was over mailing some letters from the Post got a dog and named him Rupert, so we now have an overgrown puppy riding in with the section. We started off early today by sailing the southern end of Abatabash Bay-the wind beat us up- until the waves got too big and then we paddled as a rain storm hit us. We made it through big waves to the campsite on the island 2 miles out. Now, after dinner, the wind has died down and the sun is out. ( We caught up with Bill & Clay who just left for the big crossing.) We hope to cross starting around 4 a.m. and then follow the shore up the 10 miles to the Big Turn (off Mistassini Lake onto the Rupert). Beautiful campsite here -multi-colored large pebbled beach looking to the north to an open horizon. No land visible, and to the west to the shore we cross tomorrow. We have to cross this mother lake with no wind, or we’d be swamped for sure. The section in 1970 got windbound here for 4 days! Hopefully that won’t happen to us. Looks good. Got to get up at 3 a.m. to get ready.
