R Very tricky and BIG! Approach on the right. Look over from sloping rock hill just above rapid. We ran it down the center, following relatively smooth water all the way down. There is a ledge than runs diagonally across the river reaching upstream from the left shore. We ran just to the right of this ledge, paddling through boils, etc., created by the falls (water falling over this ledge), pulling left the entire time to avoid being sucked into an enormous cellar and stacks off to the right (“trouble spot #8”). (’66, ’70 & Clay either shot or portaged (50 yds) over the first point reaching out from the right shore, then paddled across bay to 2nd point which was portaged (20 yds), then run out the final fast water on the right.)
