TO SMOKY HILL ..... Good full day, 8 hours moving ..... August 1/b

Run the right shore of the swifts leading to Smoky Hill.

P. 1200 yards on right, 50-100 yards before the tip of a point covered with aspen (the point before this only has a few aspen on the tip) Rocky landing. Very rough trail (windfalls) crosses several surveyor cuts.

Cross the moose pond to the NW end (cross diagonally to the right).

P 1200 yarder or less. Good trail. At end take a left, hard to spot side trail, or go until a stream and put in there.

CAMPSITES:

1. At top of portage- good site except water problem, it must be drawn off a quaking bog on moose pond, and no swimming area.
2. Old fishing camp abut 100yards from end of P, very overgrown. Wood sparse here.
3. Probably the best site is on poplar point on right just 100 yards below the end of the portage. Nice swimming area and water good….

It’s pretty late, so this will be a short one. Another super hot and humid day, everybody is sweating just sitting around. We shot Plum Pudding mostly blind and everyone took a couple inches. Definitely wouldn’t shoot the whole thing blind again -- dumb. That’s how all the trip reports say they did it. Clay said he eddy hopped scouting as he went, definitely the smart way. Only one rapid and one portage to go.
